Kojosho Etiquette

Show respect for the workout area
-
Bow onto and off of the workout area (if a blackbelt is present, do not enter workout area unless acknowledged by the highest ranking black belt).
-
The workout area is for practicing forms, basics, etc., not for conversation.
-
Never leave the workout area during class without permission.
Show respect for senior students
-
Bow before addressing your instructor.
-
Bows should be initiated by the lower rank.
-
Always defer to a senior student.
Show respect for yourself
-
Make sure that your appearance is neat.
-
Be positive
-
Conduct yourself in such a way that brings credit to yourself, your instructor, and your dojo.
Show respect for others
-
Treat fellow students politely and with good manners.
-
Do not become a distraction to those around you.
Line up in the correct order
-
The senior-most student is in the right-most position in the front row.
-
Students line up to the left of this student according to rank.
-
The next row will begin with the next junior rank standing directly behind the most senior rank in the row in front of them.
During class
-
The senior-most student calls everyone to bow to the instructor.
-
When moving together, be aware - out of the corner of your eye - where the senior student is and do not move in front of them.
-
If called out of line by the instructor to assist with a demonstration or to perform a task, bow to the instructor both before and after.
-
Do not ask questions during class unless the instructor has given permission.
Weapons
-
Never touch someone else's weapon without explicit permission.
